Automated incident response uses real-time location, geofencing, connected devices, and predefined safety rules to detect potential risks and automatically initiate safety workflows. Organizations can use context-aware technology to trigger worker check-ins, duress alerts, incident notifications, and emergency escalation, reducing reliance on manual reporting while improving field worker safety.
The FLUID platform turns real-world context into automated action, helping organizations protect lone workers, monitor hazardous areas, and coordinate safety responses across remote and industrial environments - instantly.
Why Is Manual Incident Reporting Insufficient for Field Worker Safety?
Traditional incident reporting relies on workers recognizing a problem and communicating it through a phone call, radio, or scheduled check-in.
But what happens when a worker is injured, incapacitated, isolated, or unable to request assistance?
For lone workers in substations, construction sites, manufacturing facilities, and remote environments, delays in recognizing potential emergencies can create serious safety risks.
Improving response times is essential to protect employees working alone, particularly when immediate assistance may be unavailable
Fluid Mobility's context-aware automation helps close the gap between an incident occurring and the appropriate personnel being notified.
Rather than relying exclusively on manual reporting, organizations can use predefined location, movement, time, and device events to initiate check-ins, alerts, and escalation procedures.
How Does Automated Incident Response Work?
Fluid Mobility combines real-world contextual signals with predefined safety rules to automatically initiate appropriate workflows.
The process follows five steps:
Context → Evaluation → Automated Action → Response → Reporting
1. Detect Context: GPS, geofencing, BLE, RTLS, mobile-device sensors, and connected safety equipment provide available location and context information.
2. Evaluate Conditions: FLUID evaluates contextual signals against predefined safety rules.
3. Trigger Automated Actions: When conditions are met, FLUID initiates check-ins, alerts, safety checklists, or escalation workflows.
4. Notify Responders: Supervisors and designated personnel receive relevant incident details and available worker location.
5. Record/Report: Context changes, notifications, acknowledgements, and response actions can be documented.
What Context Triggers Can Automatically Initiate Safety Workflows?
Organizations can configure safety workflows around individual contextual signals or combinations of conditions.
| Context Trigger | Example | Automated Response |
|---|---|---|
| Geofence Entry | Worker enters hazardous area | Dispatch safety checklist |
| Geofence Exit | Worker leaves authorized zone | Notify supervisor |
| Time + Location | Lone worker onsite after hours | Initiate safety check-in |
| Inactivity | Worker remains stationary beyond threshold | Request confirmation; escalate if unanswered |
| BLE Duress Button | Worker activates discreet SOS device | Send alert with available location |
| Indoor RTLS | Worker enters restricted facility zone | Trigger site-specific safety protocol |
| Multiple Signals | High-risk zone + missed check-in | Escalate to designated responders |
Common Safety Capabilities
What safety features does the FLUID platform include?
Location-Triggered Safety Workflows
Automatically dispatch checklists, notifications, and safety instructions when workers enter or exit hazardous areas, restricted facilities, or remote worksites.
Lone Worker Monitoring
Use location, time, movement, and dwell conditions to initiate check-ins and escalate unanswered requests to designated personnel.
Wander Management
Use location and movement to initiate wander protocols, including tracking patients and dispatching nearest staff to their live location.
Discreet Duress Alerts
Supported BLE panic buttons enable workers to discreetly initiate SOS events, triggering notifications and providing available location information to responders.
Automated Incident Escalation
When predefined conditions occur, FLUID can initiate response workflows, notify appropriate personnel, and record relevant incident information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can smartphones support automated lone worker safety?
Yes. Supported smartphones can provide location and contextual signals while delivering automated check-ins, alerts, and safety instructions. Capabilities depend on device configuration, connectivity, and available sensors.
Can inactivity automatically trigger an emergency alert?
Inactivity can trigger a check-in or escalation workflow. However, inactivity alone does not establish that an emergency has occurred.
How does geofencing improve worker safety?
Geofencing detects when a supported device enters or exits a predefined area, allowing organizations to automatically initiate location-specific safety procedures.
Does automated incident response replace existing safety procedures?
No. It supports established procedures by automating predefined notifications, check-ins, and escalation actions.
